Replace House Feed to Blower with temporary Power source

by Steve
(Omaha, NE)

I want to replace my house feed to the fireplace blower with an option to isolate it in the event of a power loss and bring in a temporary power source. I wanted to do this with a switch / receptacle thinking that I could cut the house feed with the switch and power up with the receptacle.....but things do not seem to understand me. I am working with a Hubbell combination switch / receptacle (PD123) and standard 120 house current

Thanks in advance for any direction the you may supply.

Replace House Feed to Blower with temporary Power source

Years ago following an ice storm and week long power loss I wired ( T..ed )into the furnace feed, after removing the house power feed fuse, with a 12 gage cord leaving the plug in place for a connection....saved the receptacle end to shield the plug when not in use. In the for mentioned application the receptacle would serve as the hookup point for the temporary power source.

Steve,

Thanks for visiting. I'm kinda of confused on what your trying to do here. What purpose would your outlet be? Does your blower plug into to the outlet?

If so, you will need another switch. Allow the additional switch to control the power from House and/or Generator to feed switch/Outlet combo. Then switch on the combo will turn off/on the outlet which will control blower. If house power goes out, just flip single switch which changes source from house to generator power feeding switch/outlet combo. Am I explaining something similar to what your after?
