Trying to add a switched receptacle for outdoor lights

by Rob

Trying to add a switched receptacle for outdoor lights to a 20a line. The current set up goes from an outdoor outlet to a switched receptacle for the backdoor light, but I'd like to add a second, outdoor switched receptacle for party lights, Christmas lights etc. I'm using gfci's for each outlet. So far I've got both the 1st outlet and the indoor switch working, but somehow can't get the outdoor switch to work. Suggestions, maybe with a diagram, would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Rob,

You don't really mention anything about adding a switch to the outdoors until the end of paragraph you say the outdoor switch doesn't work. Therefore I'm a bit confused on what your trying to accomplish. To add additional (Switched) outlets outdoors to what you already have, just chain the additional outlets to your current outlet. The indoor switch will control all outlets in that chain. My outlets page shows how to do this with diagrams. So I'm not sure if your wanting to add an additional outdoor switch for these circuits or not, but the outlets page should get you the information you need to accomplish this task.

Hope this helps and thanks for visiting.
